Backup and Disaster Recovery

“A company that experiences a computer outage lasting more than 10 days will never fully recover financially. 50% will be out of business within five years.”

Proper backup and disaster recovery planning is one of the most important yet most overlooked aspects of any business. These days even companies that consist of a single proprietor often use at least one computer to hold customer information, product information and inventory, and the company's books. Irrecoverable loss of this information can be devastating, and many businesses don't realize they aren't protected until it's too late.

Statistics

According to a document titled "Impact on U.S. Small Business of Natural & Man-Made Disasters" provided by SCORE in conjunction with HP:

Of small companies experiencing catastrophic data loss:

  • 43% never reopened.
  • 70% go out of business within a year.

The following statistics are reported by the University of North Carolina’s Information Technology Service:

  • 1 in 5 computers suffer a fatal hard drive crash during their lifetime.
  • 32% of data loss is caused by human error.
  • 15% or more of laptops are stolen or suffer hard drive failures.
  • 40% of small and medium sized businesses don't back up their data at all.
  • 31% of PC users have lost all of their PC files to events beyond their control.

A national Harris Interactive survey of 597 computer users found:

  • Only one in four users frequently back up digital files, even when 85% of computer users say they are very concerned about losing important digital data.
  • 37% of the survey's respondents admitted to backing up their files less than once per month.
  • 9% admitted they have never backed up their files.
  • More than 22% said backing up information is on their to-do list, but they seldom do it.

What We Do

We combine a solid understanding of your business's infrastructure, applications, and processes with proven technology to ensure you have working, reliable backups stored safely off-premises. Backups happen automatically and do not require human intervention to function properly once initial setup is complete. Notification upon backup failure ensures that problems with backups can be addressed without constant monitoring. We also do monthly manual audits to ensure proper functionality and to make any necessary adjustments to your backup schedules to include new applications or business data.

We assist you in creating a business continuity plan so that in the event of a disaster, your core business technology can function in short order from a temporary location, whether it be a makeshift office, a hotel room, or even your home.
