The ability to get work done while out of the office is becoming increasingly important for businesses of every size. Having remote access to your business allows you to work from just about anywhere, at any time. There are several kinds of remote access, and the type used depends on your specific needs.

E-Mail and Scheduling Access

With the increasing popularity of smart phones, remote access to e-mail and scheduling information is more popular than ever. Let us help you get the most out of your messaging with remote web-based and phone-based access. Synchronization is important because it allows flexibility in managing your information. Your assistant can make appointments for you back at the office, while you schedule a follow-up with the client you're meeting with right now, with no worry of conflicts because you both have the same information.

Remote Desktop

Remote desktop access gives you control of another computer as though you were sitting in front of it. It allows you to control your office workstation from your home computer, from a laptop in a café, or even from your smart phone, and use the machine as though you were right there. The applications run on the computer you are connecting to (the host), so you have access to all files and devices that the host has access to.

VPN

A Virtual Private Network gives your computer or smart phone a connection into your company network which makes it act as though you were in the office. For example, if you have a laptop that you use in the office, you might not be able to do much work while you are away, even if you have internet access. Although all your applications run, without access to network files or other company network resources, your portable computer won't help you get any work done. Think of a VPN as a virtual network cable that you use to plug your computer into the company's network from wherever you have internet access. A VPN is encrypted, and this means that the information you are exchanging with your company network is not able to be intercepted even when you are on an untrusted network such as one you would find in a coffee shop or hotel. A VPN can also be used to route all internet traffic through your company's network to get around restrictive filters or to avoid sending sensitive information over unencrypted wireless signals.

Summary

Most companies find that a combination of remote access methods provide the best fit for their organization, as different people and different scenarios require different solutions.
